As crazy as this sounds, I did a bit of reading on the topic a while ago, and slightly increased rates of radiation do seem to help prevent cancer. But obviously larger doses do not. I believe the principle is hormesis, namely that a bit of damage triggers the body's repair system, which ends up making things stronger.
