A dude claiming to be a Taliban leader held secret talks with Afghan officials. We bribed him to participate helpfully. It turned out that he wasn't a Taliban leader at all, and he ran off with the money.

I read this story in the NY Times this morning. Lordy. When you can't be sure you're talking to a Talibani, what's the world of bribery and corruption coming to!

Yeah. I was of thinking, how can we possibly succeed in Afghanistan when we can't even identify the people who we hope would surrender?
