On A Lighter Note: Baby Names
The SSA released the top baby names of 2010. Among boys names, the "two syllable names where the last syllable is '-en'" continues to be a popular trend. For more, hit the link on the Baby Name Wizard blog.
At least as interesting is the preference for giving girls names that end in "a". Isabella, Sophia, Emma, Olivia, and Ava as the top five. And Mia in 10th place.
The interesting thing about boys' names is the perennial popularity of names such as Michael, William, and Daniel. There are fashions in boys' names (e.g., the fashion for Old Testament names such as Jacob, Noah, and Joshua), but girls' names seem way more fashion-conscious (none of the names for girls in the top ten were particularly popular 30-50 years ago).
