More NYC Sports Bashing

I swear I'm not trying to turn this into a regular topic, but big thanks to New York Football Giants for laying an egg against Dallas, making it that much harder for the Dirty Birds to make the playoffs. At this point, Atlanta has to win out while hoping that two out of Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, and Dallas lose one of their final two games. Outcome unlikely.

That's not right. If Atlanta and Philly both win out, Atlanta is in regardless of what Tampa does (Dallas will have lost to Philly in this scenario).

That's right. And the Cowboys also face the ultra-stingy Ravens next week, while I'd say the odds of the Falcons winning out are pretty good against a Pat Williams-less Vikings squad followed by the hapless Rams.

Wait ... ESPN currently lists TB ahead of Tampa Bay in the standings. If the Falcons win out, they and the Bucs will have tied head-to-head and conference. TB had a 4-0 record against the NFC North, and a 1-1 record against the AFC West. Falcons are 3-1 against the AFC West and 3-0 against the NFC North.

The next tie breaker is "Strength of Victory". Remaining other win for TB is against Seattle, for Atlanta would be against St Louis.

So, if I read this correctly, if the Falcons and Eagles win out, it depends on how St Louis and Seattle finishes. At the moment though, Seattle has the better record and thus they would be in the playoffs.

There are two wild card spots, even if Atlanta loses out to Tampa as you describe, the Falocns could still get in with the second spot, which they would, as long as Dallas loses somewhere along the way (Philly would be a half game behind if both avian teams win out).
